The Calling of HMC
A community of God’s people,
Seeking and following the way of Christ,
Experiencing and sharing the good news of healing and hope.
The Vision and Values of HMC
In 2007, the Hesston Mennonite Church community discerned the following scriptures as reflecting the core values of who we are as followers of Christ.
I pray that everyone who meets you will catch your faith and learn from you how wonderful it is to live in Christ.
Jesus himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
1 Peter 2:24
Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, . . .
‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
… you are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you.
Isaiah 43:1b, 4a
…my soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is; But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:17, 21-23
Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
What to Expect
Before you arrive at Hesston Mennonite Church, you may find yourself wondering what to expect when you get here. While we do like to try new and creative things whenever possible, we also try to be consistent about being a welcoming community of God’s people. Here are a few things that you might want to know about us…
Sunday Morning Schedule – We have a Sunday School hour for children, youth, and adults at various locations throughout the church at 9:00am, we have a fellowship time at 10:00am, and then we come together for our Worship Service at 10:30am.
Dress Code – We don’t have one! You can join us for worship in whatever feels best to you. When you come into the building, you will find anything from t-shirts and shorts to suits and ties. We encourage comfort over conformity.
Children – During the Sunday School, children meet in classes based on their age. During the Worship Service, children are invited to participate with their family in worship. The service includes a Children’s Time and children are often invited participate in various ways.
Nursery Services – During our Worship Service, there are two supervised nurseries for children 4 and under. The Welcome Station attendant will be happy to direct you to the appropriate nursery when you arrive.
What We Believe – As a congregation of Mennonite Church USA, we are shaped by our Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective. Also, see these additional links to learn more about what we believe to be our unique Calling and Vision as Hesston Mennonite Church.
